Big Move for Little Stuffies
Golly, we will miss our beloved lake home up north. Our family is in the process of moving into a fancy apartment in south Minneapolis. It’s a big change! We’re thankful that our new location also overlooks a beautiful lake. Our landlords told us they really needed our help to get everything to the new place safely. You know we are terrific at mangaging projects & people, so we agreed to help out. Lucky for them we said “yes”- there was a LOT of packing and moving to do. Not sure they would have made it without me (Scottie) supervising! First, there was the practice round of items headed out to be used by other families…
After we got that trailer sent off with the Blondos, some of us had the important job to tape boxes shut and label them. Then we checked them off the moving list.
We also did the final step of moving them to the garage. That way, we’d be sure not to miss anything!
And our practice round sure helped when it was time to load the big truck. Our huge Stuffie muscles were put to use with all those boxes, mattresses, and other pieces of furniture.
By the time we did all that, we were exhausted and hungry because we’d been working really hard. We had definitely earned a snack! Much to our dismay, the cupboard was bare! (We think there is a children’s story about our friend Old Mother Hubbard who had been in similar circumstances. Our sympathies, friend! This was rough.)
Don’t fret- we did stop and have some food before getting back to work. We particularly wanted to make sure the bikes got moved so we could travel around the lakes near our new apartment. We got concerned when Dan said they wouldn’t fit in the truck. Thankfully, our neighbor Kaleb came to the rescue. These items will stay in their garage until they can be delivered in late August. Whew.
One very important job was to help a Marial pack the good china. She needed special foam sleeves to keep them from hitting… and maybe breaking. (Spoiler alert: they all made it safely to the apartment. That’s because squirrels knew to keep the dishes and the food in the car. That way, they’ll be the first things to get unpacked while you wait for the movers to arrive!
The biggest job pf all was figuring out a way to move the special glass kitchen table top. We suggested they build a wood frame and then pack it with foam to protect the glass. Then we put labels on the outside so it would be placed carefully in the truck between some mattresses. (This was way too heavy for us to lift. No matter how strong our muscles are or how much our bird friends can lift.)
All that work was worth it. We were amazed at the great view we have in our new home! There is so much more to see from the apartment windows- cars, tons of people biking and hiking the paths and swimming at the beach. And plenty of animal friends too! The Canadian geese (probably some of Amelia’s cousins) and gulls visit the beach in the morning to collect leftovers. People are always being taken on walks by their dogs. We’ll have to get down to the park to make friends with Scottie and Snowball’s relatives. And there’s a pool and rec room nearby. We hope to explore more of the complex once things get put away!
That’s about it for now! We have a lot of unpacking to do this week. We will make sure to send you an update. The weather is supposed to cool down tomorrow so we are hopeful to get in a long lake walk then.
