Food, Glorious Food!
Stuffie friends! It’s Scottie, back as promised, with a food report from our Boston vacation! Remember our 6 miles long walk without snacks? We finally ended up La Voile Kitchen. It is a very fancy French Restaurant.
And, pretty fancy places serve wine! I was determined to get a sip after I heard that it was a fine, deep burgundy. Yup, tasted like that to me… with notes of acorns and grass and a sunshiny summer’s day…
As you can see above, Gràineag was mostly focused on food. She was pretty hungry, since we’d been waiting all day for this meal. The appetizer was an impeccable corn soup. It was a smooth and creamy- very sumptuous. (You need to use big words when eating in a fancy restaurant. Otherwise, they look at you funny.)
The main course was beef bourgingon (sp) on top of mashed potatoes with pearl onions , carrots, and gravy. The serving was so large it easily fed Dan, Marial and us. It was beyond excellent!
I got busy licking the plate so none of that delicious gravy would go to waste.
Then Mauro, our waiter, came by and said that was not good manners. We had a talk where he explained etiquette for fine dining. He thought we were so cute and funny that he insisted on getting a picture with us.
Being a three course meal meant…. dessert! Of course, Marial was going to choose chocolate mousse. In case you’re unfamiliar, that’s a dessert that’s basically a whipped cream with melted chocolate and some fragrant ingredient. We learned it is Kaluah (a kind of special liqueur). It was so scrumptious we could have just eaten that all day long!
This time, we waited to lick the dish when Mauro wasn’t looking. Nothing of that incredible dessert was wasted. We heard Marial say it was a least as good as what she makes. That means we can keep an eye and a nose on the kitchen back home. We’ll recognize the smell of chocolate mousse anywhere now!
We overheard at the restaurant that we didn’t have long to wait until we’re in actual France eating more fantastic food. We are absolutely going to be on our best behavior so we can have some more of these dinners! (And, of course, we’ll bring some of our other friends along. They missed out on this meal, for sure.)
We’ll look forward to sharing more adventures on our next journey!
