No Trophies for Us

Hello, Stuffie friends!
Well, we finished a hectic season of travel by volunteering with Dan at the President’s Cup golf tournament outside of Chicago in September. We were pretty excited to see they think this event is a big party. Well, that means they couldn’t have found more qualified volunteers!

Normally Amelia Airheart would be one of the most enthusiastic volunteers. However, the minute we arrived at the course, she saw a bunch of her Canadian Geese cousins flying in formation. She took them up on their invitation to spend the weekend with them. We’re not sure what she’s up to but we’re sure she’s having fun adventures.

The President’s Cup is a competition was between US golfers and international golfers (from countries other than Europe). The winner gets a golden cup.

We asked how they managed to carry that trophy home. Someone explained to us that it’s just for the tournament venue. The winning golfer gets a smaller version of the trophy. We looked over the course layout while waiting to check in. Whatever our assignment, it was clearly going to be a long day with the layout of the course and the thousands of people gathered.

We hit the volunteer snack oasis before starting our assignment. Obviously this was going to be a great adventure- look at all these goodies!

We got the best assignment! Our job was to drive the golf cart around the course to pick up attendees who needed transportation. We took them to their chosen destinations: to see players on the course, to get food, or to the shuttle stop to catch a ride home. They were very happy to see us and find out more about our travels. How could you resist our cute faces?

We had to stop at all those places with golf cart symbols (10 in total). The most fun part of the loop was driving at full speed along the edge of the big lake. Whee!

We first stopped by the first hole grandstand. They had already teed off so not many people were around. No one to pick up here.

Because we had no passengers, we had time for a special stop. Scottie and Snowball had a chance to gather up some acorns and added them to our snack stash. We had a five hour shift on the golf cart, so we knew that we’d be glad to have some extra food.

There were plenty of places to eat but it was expensive. Luckily we had our well-rounded delicious meals we’d gathered along the way!

While this was a busy eating place, the sign is exactly what we did all day - made a loop of the entire course. Over and over and over again. Good thing that golf cart was so fun to drive!

It would have been even more fun to drive this awesome, state-of-the-art new car. Apparently, this car company was a big sponsor of the tournament. They gave away free SUVs if anyone made a hole-in-one . Sadly, no one did. We asked if we could try, but they said it was only for PGA players in the tournament.

We had a great day of volunteering. We are so looking forward to spending some time back at the apartment. We just have to make it there first. Traveling in a car across several states can get to be longggg and boring. Wish us luck!
