Spring Time Scouting
Hey, Stuffie Friends!
Well, it’s a warm day here, so we headed outside to make the most of it. You know Minnesota- it’s going to be cold again tomorrow!
We saw a boat on the lake so we definitely had to find out what was going on. Lucky for us, squirrels are good at figuring things out. Scottie’s also good at climbing metal poles, but we bird friends don’t have paws built for that. Scottie kindly lowered the rope so we could use our toes to grab the little hooks. And then our landlord Dan pulled on the rope for us to go super high. We got a really good look at the lake.
Too bad the boat had disappeared by the time we got up there. On the other hand, Yeti & friends sure are right- playgrounds are everywhere! It was fun to be up high and swaying sideways (and a little bit upside down) in the breeze!
While we were up there, we also noticed some cool looking structures. We’re pretty sure they are houses for some big birds. Wonder what kind of feathered friend would want such a large place to live? We liked the egg shaped one the best. Maybe we’ll set up camp for ourselves in that one. Plus, there are leaves in the other one- we think it’s already occupied. We’d make great neighbors!
Scottie caught a glimpse of some kind of sign when we were up on the pole. Much to our delight it looks like there might be a sailboat rental here this summer. Sign us up! We heard that sailing is super fun. Remember that lady that lives with us and bakes delicious cookies and cakes? Apparently she also loves sailing. We should do some chores around the house to start buttering her up… We’re pretty sure it would be fun to ride a vacuum anyway!
While we were busy checking out birdhouses and making plans for sailing, Dan was busy fishing. We thought we should help. After all, more people fishing= more fish to eat. He agreed and hooked us up with some poles. Sadly, none of us caught anything.
Granted, Loonie was a little distracted. He’s been waiting anxiously for his friends to arrive from Canada. And then he heard the loons calling the other evening. Too bad our landlords said it was too late to go outside. We guess they have a point- you never know what a black bear might get up to in the Spring. We’ll keep a lookout during the daytime. When they show up on our lake, we’ll all go out to meet them.
As we were putting our lures away, Flicker spotted something very interesting. Boy, does he have really good eyes! Probably why he can spot trees that are just the right amount of dead to hold lots of bugs to eat - yuck! Anyhow, we found this downed red pine tree. This explains why a big thud woke us up a few weeks ago. You’re supposed to clean up after yourself- who’s going to take care of this one?
You would think we’d have found everything there was of interest around here. But it seems like every time we go out we see something new. Scottie showed us a bunch of signs he and Amelia found last year. The signs had a lot of information on them (although it looks like some need to be touched up this summer. Know any Stuffies who want to make some cash doing a job? Yeti?) “This way to Cookies?” It was obvious which sign to follow.
The signs promised cookies & we got them. Well, we got one. Can’t complain too much. Next up- “Bass.” Watch out- we’re coming your way soon! We can’t wait for Dan to get his boat in the water so we can get out and do some serious fishing. Surely that will help us get the big ones! Spring has sprung- BOING!
