Excitement About Thanksgiving Pies Leads to A Distressing Surprise

Hey, Stuffie Friends!

We were very much looking forward to a Thanksgiving holiday this year. There were rumors of pies to be baked, and our landlords were busy stocking the fridge and making cookies for snacking. One thing we learned is apparently people eat A LOT during Thanksgiving. Don is a noted chef - we were mesmerized by his knife skills in cutting up some great looking mushrooms. We watched, and watched, and watched …

One of the other traditions we learned about was family puzzle time. Some of our visitors build a puzzle every year over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Everyone was pretty excited about this project. We almost broke the family record time in putting a puzzle together. We were a big help since we are really good at figuring out the tricky pieces! And the humans helped us out some, mostly because they have super long arms and can reach across the entire table. This is a picture of us adding our signatures to the puzzle (another tradition.) There’s a whole wall of Thanksgiving puzzles on display in Ohio. We’ll have to go check it out!

Another thing we did for fun (while waiting for everything to cook and bake) was play games. This game involved lots of little chips that represented different kinds of food. We were hoping it would be real cheese and berries and such. Sad! We were also confused about why this ant game didn’t have any real ants. Maybe it’s too cold outside for them? We’d be happy to go find some ants and bring them indoors to play. We think they’d be really happy here!

After the games and puzzle, we had to clear off the table so they could start getting ready for the main feast. We almost stole away with the cranberry sauce. Unfortunately, they were keeping an eagle eye on us, so we decided not to try it. We were hoping that our good behavior would be rewarded.

Chow time. Everyone had all the food they imagine or eat! We snuck away to check out (sample) food on the counter. We figured that everyone was so busy chatting and enjoying their food that they wouldn’t even notice.

And, this my friends, is where we made a SHOCKING discovery. I hesitate to even talk about it. In fact, it’s why I’m doing this post without my friends Flicker, Wol the Owl, and Loony.

A warning- the following picture is not for the squeamish. Or the feathered among us. We had NO idea that this holiday feast was all about a, well, you’ll see…

Terrible, right? We couldn’t believe that there was a giant version of one of our friends being eaten. And described as delicious! We did what any intelligent group of friends would do- we went to find a strong protector that would keep us safe from being cooked ourselves. Thank goodness there were several helpers in the vicinity!

We were a little worried that all our protectors being asleep would be an issue. However, it all worked out for the best. And our landlords reassured us that the bird was raised humanely and just for this. We have nothing to worry about because we are raised to be cute and lovable and entertaining. (Guess we’re worth more alive. Whew!)

This whole situation also helped us feel guilt-free about eating all the leftover pie in the kitchen.

So long for now! We are headed to the beach soon, so we should have lots to share next week!
