Amelia's Return Hits a Snag

Stuffie Friends!

Ever since Amelia flew south a few weeks ago with some of her “fair weather” feathered friends (who were migrating), it’s been pretty quiet around here. But, early this morning I got an express email message that she had just taken off from Silver Lake in Rochester and planned to arrive this afternoon. Boy, was I excited!!! Little problem… the lake where she usually lands is frozen and covered with snow. I wasn’t sure how she was going to safely land and I didn’t have a way to warn her about the conditions. Good thing one of my landlords was willing to help. We figured out that how to make a runway so Amelia could do her famous slide landing. Since we live on a pretty big lake, we also decided to put some colored flags alongside the runway. Wonder what else we could come up with between my brain and his creativity?

It was a cloudy morning. Luckily, the sky cleared and winds subsided. Conditions couldn’t have been more perfect. We kept a keen lookout to the ENE because we knew she would come in that way to land into the gentle breeze. At approximately 1:37 pm she touched down. It was kind of funny to see her slide along the ice. Thankfully there was a big pile of snow at the end to stop her.   We both applauded and could totally see why that slide landing is so famous!

After a few hugs and some hot cider, we were sent out on a scouting mission to find a tree we could decorate for Christmas. This will be our first year celebrating so we need to find the perfect tree. As a first step we went up a big tree by the lake. Our friends the wood ducks live here in the summer. Boy- we could see the whole lake! We spied a few trees that could be possibilities. Need to go closer to see if they make the cut.

We found two pretty good options for trees (in our opinion). The big one is just that … BIG. The little one reminds us of what we’ve been told about the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree.

BREAKING NEWS! we just heard that we are going on a trip to see our friends tomorrow! Looks like we can catch up with Froggie, RoaRRRy, Afro, Sneaks, Bamboo, and maybe even D. Bunny. Wonder we can find there? It is also where Stella lives so we know we’ll have a great visit. We’re going to wait until Taco and Yeti come up next week to get their opinion about the Christmas trees. Can’t wait to celebrate with all our friends!
