European Vacation Wraps Up... Almost
Stuffie Friends!
Our European journey continues in a city called Ohrid (back in North Macedonia). It is famous for the huge tectonic lake, which means the lake wasn’t ruptured when the mountains were formed. It’s the 3rd oldest lake in the world and it’s really deep, with an average depth of 595 ft (one spot is 959 ft deep). We read that there are over 200 species of fish/aquatic animals. We were really trying to pay attention to show how well behaved we are and always “thirsting” for knowledge.
The lake is 1000 square miles across. No wonder it took us 6 hours to drive around! Luckily, that time flew by, thanks to this street discovery and our sweet ride! Don’t worry- we returned it when we finished the loop and we left a “Thank You” note.
One of the most interesting sites in Ohrid was this new performing arena… built next to a very old Roman arena! We’re pretty sure they needed the upgrade because of complaints about the uncomfortable stone seats.
And our final stop- something we could really enjoy- the playground! It was full of little kids so we had to be careful not to run them over. We had a wonderful time!
Other than the 12 hour van ride we had a great time in North Macedonia. We even snuck across the border without having to show our passports - not that we have any!
We’re ending our European Vacation with a stop at our family’s house in Ireland. It will be great to see them again plus to sleep in one spot for almost a week. Ah, home sweet home (away from home)!
The neighborhood has a pretty interesting set of historical sites. We really enjoyed our tour. It’s sad that we couldn’t find the collection of fairy doors that used to be nearby. Maybe they’ve hidden them…?
Of course, we needed to do some shopping in Ennis. We discovered a great Stuffie store and toy shop. We could only visit our friends for a few minutes as we had to get to the outdoor shop before it closed.
Back at the house we had some work to do. We used our talents to help Marial configure a bunch of scout patches onto the newly purchased poncho.
After all that shopping and decision-making, we were famished. Luckily for us, there was still some salad, fish, and chips for us to enjoy. It was delicious as always!
Our day wrapped up with a fun game called Qwirkle. Each player draws six tiles and then arranges similar colors or shapes to get points. We teamed up with Ciara, so of course WE WON!
For our grand finale in Ireland we get to go to a Viking reenactment! Sounds exciting for sure, so off to bed we go!
