Tres Bon Appetit!
Stuffie Friends!
Here we are again, writing to you from Paris. For those who inquired, Amelia Airheart was going to fly us here on her airline, but decided it was time for a vacation for her, too. We had a great time looking out the window and enjoying the free beverages & snacks. This view of the English Channel told us we were almost in the land of scrumptious, world-famous food. We can confirm the cuisine here est tres magnifique(fabulous). We decided to take a new approach to eating. We took a page from a wise person’s book: “Always eat dessert first.” For example, here’s us finishing off an incredible dish of chocolate mousse. Hate to say it, Boston, but it’s even better over here.
The Rive Gauche (Left Bank) is very famous for artists- the Sorbonne school- and very chic people. But we don’t want to bore you with facts about Paris. Let’s get to the good stuff! Our lunchtime appetizer- two ice cream cones (one chocolate, one raspberry). Marial said it was the best ice cream she had tasted!
We went to a famous Department store called Galleries La Fayette. It’s probably known for lots of things, but the most important is their international food court. We choose a good old hot dog. By the time the French were done with it, the hot dog had special sauce, cheese, toasted onions and some secret tomato jam spread. It was really delicious!
We walked some more, saw a bunch of sites, blah blah blah…. And then we went to a fancy restaurant for dinner. (This picture shows you what the chocolate mousse looked like before we licked the bowl clean.)
And it wouldn’t be fine dining without wine- this red hails from the Rhône Valley. (No, we don’t know where that is, but it’s the home of many famous wines.)
The main course was some kind of beef with potatoes and gravy… plus noodles with chicken, herbs, and creamy deliciousnesss.
Another long walk was in store the next day. We got hungry from all the siteseeing and stopped to eat at a sidewalk cafe. We looked for a busy one (that means the food was probably the best). Our appetizer was crème brûlée (that’s a custard with toasted sugar on top). Good thing we had Flambee with us- he showed the waiter how to apply just the right amount of flame to the top so it turns out golden brown and crackly. Perfection!
For the main courses, we had a great burger and some more tasty pasta. And, of course, we had to have more wine!
We’ve been really busy on long walks learning about art and culture and history. Fine for some friends, but so far not too exciting for us. We did perk up a lot when we came across this store…
They had some amazing toys and some cute friends, but no one that really spoke to us as a partner in crime friendship. After more window shopping and browsing, we are pleased to inform you we have a new Stuffie in our crowd. Jacques called out to us from the shelf in a toy store. He’d seen us strolling by outdoors- joyful in our freedom- and asked to join us. We just had to save him! He’s a hoot and a half. Also, it is much easier to get around Paris with someone who knows the language.
Can’t wait to share more adventures with him. Stay tuned!
