Castles Galore

Hey, everyone! It’s Scottie and Friends. We had a terrific time in Riga and learned a lot. Next, it was a Looooonnng bus ride to Vilnius, Lithuania. Good thing we are good at sleeping on moving vehicles. It went by in a snap. We knew that we had many hills to climb and castles to visit once we arrived. Our first castle was straight up the hill from the train station. The steep terrain and these cannons made it impossible for invaders to conquer this castle (many tried and all failed).

The people running the cannons weren’t taking any chances, though. They had some pretty cool helmets to protect them just in case. Oh, and there were other things being fired over the walls (like arrows). Guess the helmets would help with those, too. You can also see some shiny armor in the background.

We really liked the big sword!  Isn’t it the perfect size for two of us to handle? (Get it? “Handle”?) Too bad for us it was chained to the table. We couldn’t take it with us…

After all of this learning about blockades and defenses, it was time to take a snack break. This country is also all about the ice cream! Yes!

After that refreshing stop, we were up for another castle. This one was on another hill overlooking the modern city.  As you can see, we enjoyed some beautiful weather and had a terrific view.

As you might closely see we took a funicular (a railway car that goes up and down the hill). We took a ride, since we’d already walked more than 5 miles. We were exhausted!

Believe it or not, the next day, we went to another castle. This one was really interesting because it’s on an island in the middle of a lake. We got to watch the workers busy restoring parts of it. Scottie provided some supervision and guidance to one of the workers. And then we offered our expert construction skills. Apparently you need special work permits and the office was closed, so we were out of luck. Guess it’s back to vacation for us!

On the way back, we found a very special ice cream shop. This one is a specially sized ice cream wagon for children and Stuffies!  It was pretty tasty. In fact, next trip we are going to convince Dan to skip the castles and just find all of the ice cream stands!

All good things come to an end, so we left the castles and ice cream behind. Next stop- the airport to board a flight to Prague. Much to our amazement, they have special planes for children and Stuffies! This country is all about us!

In case you’re wondering, these awesome flights include plenty of toys, games, cuddly things, and all the junk food you can eat. It was a great break from all the rules they have on regular airplanes! Even Amelia decided to join us instead of flying to Prague on her own. What a treat!

(A quick travel tip from Yeti: “Hey, Scottie and Friends! When you go to Prague, you should find a hotel with continental breakfasts. Look at this spread from our fancy hotel in Duluth!”)
