That's One Way to Look At It
Greetings, Everyone! I know there have been some comments and conversations about what nefarious things I might be up to in the absence of news. As your hopeful future Ruler of the Universe, I’d like to address these aspersions against my fine character.
Do I sound very fancy and intelligent? Unlike what some squirrels may think, I’ve been bettering myself by taking some classes. Some young people might be right that I don’t know enough to be in charge of everyone and everything everwhere… yet. I’m getting there! Part of what I’ve learned is that it’s important to take time and enjoy what’s around you. For example, this fine field of flowers on a Spring day…
Jicama took us to some open blooms to start with. I must say, they smelled wonderful!
As we looked at more and more flowers up close, I couldn’t really see what all the fuss was about. There were so many people out and about in this garden! And, as far as I could tell, they were happy to just wander about and look at flowers and take pictures of them and occasionally smell them. Why? We don’t know.
Fajita had lots of questions. I’ll let them share with you.
“Why are some of these still balls? Can you play with these ones? Will they bounce? Can I bounce on the stem with them? Why do flowers sway in the breeze? Do you think they like feeling the wind on their faces? When it rains, where does the water go? Does it get soaked up in their petals like in my fur? Do the petals work like raincoats and it just washes right off? Why did they call the foot things for bikes after the little pieces of flowers? What happens when the petals drop off- do the big flowers miss them when they go? Where do all the flowers go?”
(Don’t worry. It was like that all morning. And afternoon. I’ll move on now- you’re welcome!)
Boy, does Jicama love a good garden excursion! She took us down every row and across every field. We smelled countless flowers and compared their colors and sizes and composition and I don’t know what all.
And more blossoms and more plants…
Jicama was having a great time! I was… well, I’ll let my expression in this photo tell you all you need to know.
Fajita said maybe we should leave their mama to the smelling and make a break for it. Couldn’t have agreed more! We disappeared into some peonies…
When Jicama caught up to us, she was pretty upset. Turns out having your little one disappear for awhile in a huge field of jungly flowers is a little stressful. I tried to reassure her, but she was having none of it. Luckily, Fajita knows their mama well. A little silliness goes a long way to show that everything’s really fine.
I was glad for a little adventure and fun with Fajita. It was pretty exhausting traipsing through field after field trying to “be more present”. Not sure what the purpose was, though. Really? This is all there is to this “enjoy the moment” thing?
Then I found a store around the corner. Do you know how much these fresh cut peonies go for??! That doesn’t even account for the profit from actual ones you can bring home and plant. Or the perfume you could make and sell or the fashion these flowers could inspire…. We’re talking lots of cash, people. Makes you see this whole “nature experience” in a whole new light!
There are millions of these flowers around here. I’ve gotta get busy doing some selling. See you soon- when I’m richer than I am now! Yippee!!!
(Oh, and my gratitude goes out to Jicama for bringing me out in nature on this fine day. Couldn’t have done it without you.)
