Working as a Subcontractor
Stuffie Friends!
It’s Flambée here, reporting to you from abroad. Although our landlords have been back in the States for awhile, we stayed overseas to do some more touring and to do a little project (or two) for our friend Yeti. It’s been wonderful to stay on in Paris longer. We never would have found this dragon neighborhood otherwise. And, don’t panic- the local dragon is very friendly!
We learned from Dan that it’s really fun to spend the whole day just walking around Paris. He calls it “Joie La Vive”! We found plenty to entertain us. It’s always worthwhile to get high up and take in the views. Thank goodness Amelia and I could fly the friends who couldn’t scale the walls like Scottie.
One of our favorite places to wander was on the Quai (a sidewalk along the banks of the Seine). There are little stands or booths where vendors sell a variety of things such as posters, books, artwork, newspapers, and magazines. These shops have existed for over a century and are handed down to families from one generation to the next. We particularly liked the cartoon posters at this stand. We couldn’t buy one because Amelia’s airline can’t really handle luggage that large.
We stopped by to see this interesting glass pyramid. It was designed by a world famous architect- I.M.Pei- and completed in 1989. It was very controversial because it changed the look of the 200 year old buildings that make up some museum that Yeti’s visited.. We went down below and it was amazing to look up at the sky through that glass.
Dan told us we should take a tour of Notre Dame- he sang in a concert here back in 1969. There was a big fire that almost destroyed it 6 years ago. Thanks to the firemen and volunteers many things were saved. They still have a little work on the outside, but it finally reopened for visitors this winter. We were disappointed to not find any hunchback inside. Maybe he’s on vacation…
Across a bridge we saw some buskers performing blues music. They were really good! Lucky for everyone it was a beautiful day, so we stopped and enjoyed a picnic along with the live music.
One of the best days for Scottie and me was coming across this red Citroen convertible from the 1960’s. Whoohoo! We got to take a quick spin in it. That was some fun! Unluckily, the owner had to go and took the keys with them.
Boy, were we having a wonderful time touring! We could have done this forever. Unfortunately, Amelia’s airline was only able to accomodate a certain amount of her vacationing. So we had to get started on our actual job here. You see, our friend Yeti has recently decided to get into the flower business. She saw our posts about the lovely gardens of Paris and read about all the beautiful flowers we were seeing.
We agreed to be her subcontractors and harvest and sell flowers for a profit. So we traveled around town selecting flowers and selling them to passersby. All the proceeds go to Yeti, of course.
We then made our way to D’Orsey Museum. Yeti wants us to do some research about sculptures and how they’re made and how much they’re worth and who they honor, etc. etc. We’re not sure exactly why she wants to know this. It’s Yeti- best not to ask too many questions.
We decided to make it fun for ourselves and challenge the animals to some contests. We won every time… probably because they couldn’t move.
Well, we’re leaving France soon. We’ll be sad to leave all this fantastic food behind, but I’m sure we’ll be back. Au revoir for now!
