The Irish Connection

On our way back from France, we had a layover in County Clare (Ireland). Amelia Airheart said it’s the best place to pause and catch her breath before taking us across the pond. It also allowed us to do some hiking, working, eating and visiting our Irish cousins.

One of our favorite hangouts is on the window in the dining room. We can keep an eye and ear on the kitchen (for food) and there’s always entertainment nearby. We were admiring the gorgeous flowers on the window sill.

Something about our effusive compliments… and questions about how long they’d keep, how much they were worth, and whether they’d travel well made people suspicious. They sent us outside.

Hey, no problem! Plenty of flowers here to harvest and sell for Yeti.

It was at that point that our Irish family decided maybe we needed some work to occupy us. They sent us to the back garden to cut and stack a pile of firewood.

No problem for us! We made quick work of the pile. We wanted them to be impressed so they’d pay us a lot of money and a hefty tip.

They said we’d earned “the pride of a job well done.” Gee, thanks. They did offer to take us on a hike in the famous Burren. It’s a very unusual rocky landscape where Katie and her Stuffies often go hiking. We looked and looked for them, but we never found them.

We did bring snacks and water into the wilderness, but we got pretty hungry just the same. Is it just us, or does this look like a giant, tasty, warm & gooey cinnamon roll? Mmmm.

On our way back to the car, Jacques suddently took a detour into a field. We weren’t really sure what captured his attention.

Then we saw them. Lots of cows resting. He went over and tried to strike up a conversation. Unfortunately, they didn’t speak French and he doesn’t speak Irish, so they didn’t get very far. Maybe he can study up before the next trip!

When we got back to the house, it was time to rest and read some books. At last a chance to rest and daydream!

Well, it turns out they were all “learning books” not “story books”. We have to admit that the book about Outer Space was super interesting. We think Yeti should check it out. It has lots of information about rocket travel and space stations and interstellar travel. This book, on the other hand…

We really couldn’t make heads or tails of it.

After all that hiking and working and thinking, we were famished. Luckily, there was a fabulous meal awaiting us in Ennis.

The restaurant gave us a perfect view of people in town. They all seemed to be heading somewhere in a hurry. Apparently, we were so distracted trying to figure out where they were all going that we missed it when deserts came. There was none left for us. They said they’d describe how tasty and incredible the cheesecake and chocolate caramel pie were, if that helped. We said it would not. Were they kidding?

Hope you have a wonderful meal awaiting you in the near future- don’t miss out on the dessert!!!!
